A blood collection camp was organized at District Jail Timergara Dir lower. The inmates of Jail donated blood for the needy patients of thalassaemia. At the end Dr. Wakeel Muhammad Medical Superintendent offered thanks to Mr. Sayar Ahmad Khan Deputy Superintendent Jail, Dr. Ghulam Faqir Medical Officer Jail, Muhammad Ibrahim, Sayad Malik and prisoners of District Jail who were to keen to donate blood.

A thalassaenmia awareness Seminar was organized by District Govt in colloboration with DHQ hospital Timergara and Khwendo Kor.
Thalassaemia patients, their parents /Guardians and people from all waliks of life attended the seminar.
The program started with the recitation from the holu Qura'an by maulan Fazal ullah sb of Timergara. Then he appealed the masses to come forward to help the patients by donating blood.
DCO Dir lower Mr. Mahmood Aslam expressed his feelings regarding the miseries the patients and their parents face. He assured all sort of help for these patients and instructed all the SDMs to organize blood collection camps at various places of their jurisdiction and come forward for mass awareness program.

Dr. Fazal Rahim delivered a comprehensive interactive lecture /talk on thalassaemia. He told the gatherin tha thalassaemia needs a multidimentional protocol to treat and curb thalassaemia. He told that this cannot be an one man show, all the disciplines of medicine have their role like Children specialist, haematology / blood bank, medicine department, surgey, social organizers, district Govt, Provincial Govt. He disclosed that he district govt supports us regarding funds, MSF for blood banking and Provincial Govt. for Serum ferritin test and Screening of the families for thalassaemia minor. He addressing the patients/parents that bring the patients to hospital early in the morning to Casualty for admission chit, go to ward where initial evalvation is done for blood transfusion and other illnesses. The blood collection, screening for HBs Ag, Anti HCV, Anti HIV and Syphilis and cross matching is done at blood bank free of cost. The blood is then transfused at Children B ward under strict supervision.

Samples will be sent to Peshawar Hayatabad thalassaemia centre for serum ferritin test and iron chelation therapy will be started according to the serum ferritin level free of cost. He thanks all the participants, MSF, Khwendo Kor, Provincial Govt khyber PK and especially District Govt, DCO Mr. Mahmood Aslam for helping and encouragiong us to help the needy patients. He appreciated the role of Mr. Ziaur Rahman SDM in organizing this Seminar. He requested the gathering and especially the media to highlight the problem and visit the the hospital web site.

MR. Ibrash Pasha of Khwendo Kor gave a short brief on thalassaemia history in the District.

Mr. Saleem ur Rahman Clinical Psychologist and DMS of the hospital discussed the psychological effects of thalassaemia on the family members.

Dr. Wakeel Muhammad MS DHQ Hospital Timergara thanked all the participants, DCO Mr. Mahmood Aslam, all SDM, politicians, MSF and Khwendo kor andespecially timergara Press club for thei presence and reporting the events..

Mr. Khurshid a politician and a social worker highlighted the need to help the patients.

Scheduled meeting with DCO Dir lower regarding Thalassaemia Cenre DHQ Hospitl Timergara

The amount released by the District Govt. of Rs. 5,00,000 will be spent on iron chelation therapy. to adjust the dose of iron chelators serum ferritin test will be performed free of cost by Thalassaemia centre hayatabad peshawar established by Health department Khyber PK.

A conference /seminar will be arranged at DCO office on Monday October 8, 2012 regarding thalassaemia
Patietns, parents and others concerned will be called for the meeting.

Provincial Thalassaemia Program Khyber PK Co-Chairman Prof. Dr. Fazal Raziq and MO Dr. Kashif ud Din were contacted and they assured free Serum Ferritin tests and family screening for thalassaemia trait.

DCO Dir lower Mr. Aslam Mahmood along with Mr. Qadeer Nawaz Khan CEO Wajeeha Thalassaemia Centre www.wajeehatc.com visited thalassaemia care centre DHQ Hospital timergara. Mr Qadeer sb. promised to supply iron chelation thearpy for patients. He stressed on the formation of blood collection committees and involve other organizations and education department in thalassaemia compaign.

Mr. Aslam Mahmood assured to include thalasaemia program with polio and other state sponsored programs for mass awareness and education. He promised to provide sufficient funds to run the centre efficiently.
